KinderKord: A Safe Way To Stay Connected

by Joan Lunden

KinderKord is a wrist to wrist connection for you and your child which leaves your hands free–while keeping your child physically connected to you.

Backstory: The KinderKord was invented by Joan Lunden and her husband Jeffrey Konigsburg when concerned about keeping their two sets of twins safe. The only option that Lunden and Konigsburg had were backpack harnesses, which proved impractical. The backpack harnesses have straps that don’t retract so people are stepping on them and you need to use your hands to hold onto the harness, which leaves you unable to use your hands. Not to mention that you have to put the backpacks on and off when getting in and out of the car. They wanted something to free up their hands, that they didn’t have to remove at every stop while running errands and wouldn’t overheat their children’s backs in the summer. KinderKord1My Review: I love the KinderKord! I wish I had the KinderKord when my daughters were young, but am so happy to be able to use it with my son. He doesn’t like to hold hands so this gives him the freedom he wants while keeping him safe at the same time. As a mom of three, I don’t have enough hands to keep all my children safe. My son didn’t protest wearing it like I feared he would. In fact, he started blasting his sisters like he was a power ranger. [laughs] I like that the cord is retractable so I don’t have to worry about anyone tripping. I also like that it is just like a watch. Easy to put on and take off but durable enough for my little one to not be able to undo. There is a simple hook that when twisted just so releases very quickly. I was pleased to know that they had updated the original KinderKord from Velcro to a watch style because I was concerned that my little guy would figure out how to release the Velcro. However, no more Velcro, just a little metal clasp that hooks into a slit just like wearing an adjustable watch. I really have no complaints, other than I have to buy more because my daughters want their own. Each adult KinderKord can attach two children and the cords don’t tangle.
